Democracy; on loan to the imperfectly Righteous

God, the Father, Lord (Adonie), and King (Melech). As a psychological Image, God above all else is seen as the Infinite King of the Universe, and existence. When that image is understood and integrated the person becomes conscious of the projections of the unconscious on objects, images and ideas in reality that correspond to the numinous quality of this archetype.

You see the Divine in the Heavens and in Nature, in emotions that overwhelm; in War, in Love, in Decay, in Growth, in Life, in Death.

However, when one is unconscious of this archetype, the “Self”, the King, the Lord, the Heavenly Father is projected on people instead, unconsciously. Hitler becomes the Führer. Mao and Stalin the Fathers of a People and Nation; Kim Jong-il became a Leader-God-Man, with his own mythology and worship in North Korea. These are the projections of people on to one person their collective, undeveloped, and unconscious God-Image. It is also why all such regimes abhor religion. Hitler hated the Jews among other reasons, for creating Christianity. By destroying traditional faith, the religious urge and its projections are taken on by the Nation and/or its Leader. Destroying religion therefore (like the tactic of Subversion) is the first task of a Tyrant.

In the long run, National Socialism and religion will no longer be able to exist together. [On a question from C. S., whether this antagonism might mean a war, the Fuehrer continued:] No, it does not mean a war. The ideal solution would be to leave the religions to devour themselves, without persecutions. Christianity was the first creed in the world to exterminate its adversaries in the name of love. Its key-note is intolerance. Without Christianity, we should not have had Islam. The Roman Empire, under Germanic influence, would have developed in the direction of world-domination, and humanity would not have extinguished fifteen centuries of civilisation at a single stroke. Let it not be said that Christianity brought man the life of the soul, for that evolution was in the natural order of things. The result of the collapse of the Roman Empire was a night that lasted for centuries.

So, why is Democracy (Self-Rule) on Loan? Because we can only rule ourselves so long as our psyches are connected to the Numinous God-Image of the “Self”. We can rule ourselves so long as God, the psychic Jungian “Self” rules us. What happens without it?

As we are of two natures (Good/Evil, Order/Chaos) with people being usually somewhere in between, thanks to the tendency of Numinous traditions in creating a unity of opposites for people that sincerely take on the wisdom of their traditions. The center will start to fall apart, and will not hold the Democracy together:

So with this, what will the two halves of the previous imperfect whole look like?

One (generally, what we would call the Left) sees itself as a god of its own destiny, they internalize the power drive of the image and see their own Ego’s as ultimately in control. Their projection will be on to other people the view that just as it is for them (political) Power is paramount, or to be cultivated above all else. They will suspect others of wanting to use power over them, or others. And in so doing will lash out at any form of organized power, or institutions that hold power they perceive as threatening to them, and to their own Will to Power.

They might respond to people that hold the same views as them, a charismatic duplicate of their egoic self, but that projection only holds while the person is an exemplar of that particular ideology. If they falter, there is almost no loyalty. And the next “best” exemplar is elevated. This is why “progressive”, “liberal” and “communist” freedom fighters tend to be “replaced” by more “pure” figure heads…. they last until the egoic projection finds a different person that fits its own values best.

The other (generally, what we would call the Right) will be looking for a Leader outside themselves. They will project the Will to Power on any charismatic person that is themselves a Mana personality (a person that exhibits, consciously, or unconsciously, the archetype of King/Hero, or Sage/Mystic. (Or other archetypes) To use our tribal past, the people that exhibit the potentiality of the Chief, or Shaman.) There is usually unwavering loyalty to that person, and they are elevated almost to a religious like worship. They can do no wrong.

One will create Chaos, the other will look for Order imposed from above by Government fiat.

Historically, because of better organization, the ones that seek Order will usually win, and out of that, as a reaction, will come tyranny. But that is not always the case. Chaos can overwhelm and bring destruction to all equally.

As for me, and people like me, as a friend of mine said, we will come down from the mountain and do what we have always done. Preserve the Numinous, both the Light of Consciousness, and the Void of the Collective Unconscious, as best we can and guide those that will take up arms to protect what was from the devouring entropy of the Wrathful and Spurned Divine.

The dictator State has one great advantage over bourgeois reason: along with the individual it swallows up his religious forces. The State has taken the place of God; that is why, seen from this angle, the socialist dictatorships are religions and State slavery is a form of worship. But the religious function cannot be dislocated and falsified in this way without giving rise to secret doubts, which are immediately repressed so as to avoid conflict with the prevailing trend towards mass-mindedness. The result, as always in such cases, is overcompensation in the form of fanaticism, which in its turn is used as a weapon for stamping out the least flicker of opposition. Free opinion is stifled, and moral decision ruthlessly suppressed, on the plea that the end justifies the means, even the vilest. The policy of the State is exalted to a creed, the leader or party boss becomes a demigod beyond good and evil, and his votaries are honored as heroes, martyrs, apostles, missionaries. There is only one truth and beside it no other. It is sacrosanct and above criticism. Anyone who thinks differently is a heretic, who, as we know from history, is threatened with all manner of unpleasant things. Only the party boss, who holds the political power in his hands, can interpret the State doctrine authentically, and he does so just as suits him.
