A Student of Sense and Nonsense

The Abyss Gazes Back

“He who fights with monsters should see to it that he himself does not become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you.”
— Friedrich Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, aphorism 146 (1886)

It has been sobering to watch the far left consumed by the feminine, nihilistic void – an archetype that wears many costumes – evolving into a caricature of the values I once believed we shared – equal rights under the law, color blindness, and the Golden Rule of treating others as we wish to be treated. Through enantiodromia, they have become the very opposite of what they professed to stand for. The moniker “Woke Left” denotes people who have been possessed by this void, serving as her mouthpieces.

The conservative movement in America began fighting this phenomenon – the “anti-woke” crowd. On the surface I supported them, and there are still a few individuals in that camp whom I respect: Jordan Peterson, Douglas Murray, Ben Shapiro, Konstantin Kisin, and James Lindsay.

Yet many within that group have metamorphosed into what they once fought against. Notable examples include Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and, increasingly, Joe Rogan.

These voices now exemplify what some call the “Woke Right”: individuals who employ the same forces – chiefly the feminine, nihilistic spirit – to erode history and whatever goodwill modern religion still retains.

It is disheartening, but unsurprising.
